Blunted Dummies 4EVA!

I guess people that were fans of the infamous (since forgotten by most present day hipsters) Flava Zone featuring the Blunted Dummies will appreciate this FINAL episode more than the average head.... as we reminisce over you...

The Flava Zone feat. The Blunted Dummies FINAL SHOW

April 20th, 1996 PART I
April 20th, 1996 PART II

If anyone has any pictures of people at the station in them days, hit me up! I've been asking for years...

Airing on CKCU 93.1 FM every Saturday night/Sunday morning, "The Flava Zone" began sometime in 1993 every week from Midnight-2am. Prominent business owner and promoter Kevin Bradley, DJ Trevor Walker and, if I'm not mistaken, I think a third person were the originators. Not too long after the show had commenced The Blunted Dummies were introduced, injecting fresh voices of the youth as hosts/co-hosts to the already ill show. With DJ Trevor Walker providing new rap music and the Dummies with humour and info., the Flava Zone was a massive success amongst hip hop heads. While Ottawa's other main hip hop show provided a bit more of a mixture of reggae, rn'b and rap, the Flava Zone filled a void with it's raw hip hop tracks.

Sometime moving into the show's 3rd year DJ Trevor Walker left the show, leaving the responsibility of 'DJ' to the Blunted Dummies, as the other original members of the show had also moved on. Over a period of a few to several months the lack of an actual DJ proved an opportunity in disguise for a couple of local up-n-coming DJ's Dave C. & Duckets who began spinning on the show in the fall of '95.

However, as politics would have it the Flava Zone met it's demise on April 20th, 1996 to a surprised group of show hosts. The Blunted Dummies, Dave C. & Duckets as well as it's listeners only found out of the show's cancellation on the day of.

Please enjoy this final episode and I will continue to dig for other episodes.
